Product Description Helps gardeners grow greener lawns and more abundant flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Testing the levels of pH, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash takes just 3 easy steps: 1) mix soil with water, pour off liquid after soil settles into the chambers of the color compactor, 2) dissolve tablet, and 3) compare the color for test reading chart that is included in the kit. Kit contains 40 tests; 10 each for pH (acidity alkalinity), nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash. Complete instructions are included for adjusting soil conditions and fertilization.

Capsules Break Down, One Time Use September 1, 2010 Consumer 1011100100 (MD) The biggest problem with the kit is that after some time the capsules break down. The chemicals inside eat their way out of the plastic and who knows if the test is accurate after that has happened. I used the kit in spring of 2010 and it worked nicely. About 3 months later I went to use it again for a fall planting and the capsules had corroded. I know that this is not a fluke as I found the same kits in a hardware store and all of them were corroded in the same fashion. I used the kit anyway and compared results to a brand new different test I bought. The results did not coincide. Consider the kit a one time use and it is fine. However, the newer kit I bought (not on amazon but can be found in the big blue hardware stores) has cylindrical tubes and tablets foil packed like some pharmacy drugs. It is faster (the kit I am reviewing makes you wait 30min to 24hrs at one point), easier, cheaper, clearer, uses less soil and I think the capsules will last longer. I highly recommend you skip the capsule kits and buy the foil packed one. Happy Gardening!
Good for testing August 1, 2010 William Stamper Product was very good for testing the soil. It was eay to use and instuctions were easy to follow. The one draw back is the information on how to fix problems with the soil was not very good.
Great and simple to use May 18, 2010 W. Ilarmer (Girard,Ks USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have used this product for many years, I find very easy to use for my gardening and lawn maintenance.
nice to have May 13, 2010 George Corrado 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
this is nice to have at home instead of sending your soil off somewhere else.
soil tester not very useful January 8, 2010 Ronald Sanzone 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I used this test several times each with difficulty. Tubes easily fall over spilling the content and a funnel seems to be the best way of emptying the content of the capsules.
I will not know until spring if it was worth pursuing
